Flange Gasket Outline DXF
Pick ASME B16.5 or EN 1092-1, choose size and rating, and the full-face gasket is drawn with every hole straddling the centrelines — or type your own OD, ID, PCD and holes.

How to
A standard flange gasket in four clicks
- Open the standard libraryIt is open on this page: choose ASME B16.5 (NPS, Class) or EN 1092-1 (DN, PN).
- Pick size and ratingOD, ID, PCD, bolt count and hole Ø fill in; the label names the standard and the gasket ID source.
- Add a tang or split itPull tang under the Geometry tab, or switch the shape to split ring for large diameters.
- Check and exportWeb, chord and hole table update live; export the 1:1 layered DXF or the punch template.
Gasket types
Full-face versus ring (IBC) gaskets
Most repair jobs on flat-face flanges need full-face; raised-face flanges often take a ring.
A full-face gasket covers the whole flange face, so it also protects cast-iron and plastic flat-face flanges from bending when the bolts are torqued. A ring gasket (inside bolt circle, IBC) only covers the raised face; it is quicker to cut but needs the bolts to centre it.
The ASME 4-inch Class 150 example is a full-face gasket: OD 228.60 mm, ID 114.30 mm (B16.21), 8 holes of 19.05 mm on a 190.50 mm PCD. Its thinnest web is 9.5 mm between each hole and the outer edge.

How the picker fills the numbers
Two quick loads are on the example strip above; every size is in the tables of the template guide.
| Quick load | OD × ID | Bolt pattern | Chord S | Open |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ASME B16.5 NPS 10 Class 150 | 406.40 × 273.05 mm | 12 × Ø25.40 on PCD 361.95 | 93.68 mm | Load |
| EN 1092-1 DN200 PN16 | 340.00 × 220.00 mm | 12 × Ø22.00 on PCD 295.00 | 76.35 mm | Load |
| EN 1092-1 DN200 PN10 | 340.00 × 220.00 mm | 8 × Ø22.00 on PCD 295.00 | 112.89 mm | Load |
Note the DN200 pair: PN16 has 12 holes, PN10 only 8, on the same 295 mm bolt circle. Measure your flange and count the holes before you trust the rating stamped on it.
The straddle rule
ASME and EN flanges place the first hole at 180°/N from the horizontal centreline, so the holes straddle both centrelines. The studio does the same whenever a standard is loaded and shows the start angle in the hole table and the free TXT.
Large diameters
Split rings with dovetail joints
Every joint sits halfway between two bolts; the socket gets the clearance you set.
| Segments | Segment box | 256 × 256 mm bed |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 540.0 × 294.0 mm | too big |
| 4 | 389.3 × 128.9 mm | too big |
| 8 | 223.7 × 76.0 mm | fits |
| 16 | 126.3 × 64.0 mm | fits |
The 4-segment example is honest about it: each piece is 389.3 × 128.9 mm and will not fit a 256 mm printer bed, so the studio suggests 8 segments. For paper, the 1:1 PDF tiles the whole ring across 9 Letter tiles instead.
DXF
Layers in the flange gasket outline DXF
| Layer | Colour | Contents | Cut |
|---|---|---|---|
| OUTER_CUT | ACI 4 cyan | Outer profile incl. pull tang, ears, bosses, dovetail tabs | Cut last |
| INNER_BORE | ACI 7 white | Centre bore, inner opening, ports, oil/water passages, traced inner contours | Cut first |
| BOLT_HOLES | ACI 30 orange | Every bolt hole as a CIRCLE (slots as closed bulge POLYLINE) | Cut first |
| CENTERLINES | ACI 3 green, CENTER linetype | PCD circle, hole cross lines, band centreline, dovetail joint lines | Do not cut |
| DIMENSIONS | ACI 8 grey | OD/ID/PCD/hole dimensions, title text | Do not cut |
OD, ID and round holes are true CIRCLE entities, so CAM software reads exact diameters. See the parametric gasket CAD generator guide for every layer and file format.

Where flange gaskets get made from a drawing
- Pump and valve maintenanceLoad the standard, punch it on paper with the 1:1 template PDF.
- Laser or waterjet job shopsNest the kerf SVG; settings per material in the kerf guide.
- Odd or worn flangesMeasure the PCD with the bolt circle calculator or trace a photo with the photo tracer.
- Water and chemical linesPick PTFE or aramid fibre in the material list; the main gasket DXF generator covers the other shapes.
FAQ
Questions from the shop floor
Short, specific answers. Open a question to read it.
Full-face or ring gasket — which one does the studio draw?
It draws a full-face gasket: material from the bore out to the flange OD with every bolt hole cut. For a ring (IBC) gasket that sits inside the bolts, set the OD just under the PCD minus one hole diameter and the hole count to the minimum; the web check then tells you how much band is left.
Where do the ASME and EN numbers come from?
Drilling (OD, PCD, bolt count, hole diameter) follows ASME B16.5 and EN 1092-1; the gasket ID follows ASME B16.21 and EN 1514-1. ASME values are inches converted at exactly 25.4 mm. Always check the real flange with calipers — old or non-standard flanges vary.
Why is the first hole at 22.5° and not at 0°?
Standard flanges straddle the centrelines: the first hole sits at 180° divided by the hole count, so no hole lands on the vertical or horizontal centreline. With 8 holes that is 22.5°, with 12 it is 15°. Untick "Straddle the centrelines" to type your own start angle.
What happens when I edit a loaded standard?
The label switches to "Custom (edited from …)" and the picker to Custom, so a drawing never claims to be ASME or EN when it is not. Tang, thickness, material, kerf and bead stay as they were when you load or edit a standard.
When should I split a large ring into segments?
When the gasket is bigger than your laser bed, sheet or 3D printer. The split ring cuts the band into 2–16 dovetail segments with joints halfway between bolts; the studio shows each segment box and whether it fits a 256 × 256 mm bed, plus the fewest segments that would.
What does the pull tang do?
A tang is a straight tab that sticks out past the OD so you can lift the gasket out of a closed flange and read its size and material. Width, length and angle are adjustable; the area and weight include it, the web check does not.
